Harrogate and Nidderdale Art Club was formed in 1936, and currently has a maximum of around 100 members (plus a waiting list). It meets on Thursday evenings between 7 and 9 p.m. during the Club Season, at Harrogate Grammar School, Arthurs Avenue, Harrogate, HG2 0DZ
(click here to view the location of the school).
Patron of our club is Sir Thomas Ingilby.
There is a structured weekly Programme from the first Thursday in September, running through to the last Thursday in June, which includes, on average 8 or 9 professional demonstrations and workshops, and the opportunity to draw and paint from models, still life and projected landscape slides. Talented members of the Club also run workshop sessions. We always have a Christmas Lunch or Dinner,
and the Club year ends with a Social Evening.
The published Programme includes a “Crit Evening” (for constructive comment) in the Spring. This is an opportunity to display your talent for everyone to see. Twice a year there are specially arranged public exhibitions, giving members a chance to display and sell their work, starting with the busy May Day holiday weekend in Ripley town Hall. At this event there are Club Trophies which are awarded
as recognition of good work. The second exhibition takes place in the Autumn.
The Club has a hard-working Committee of 10 members, and other members may be co-opted for some of the more exacting jobs. We like to feel that everybody’s help is welcome and that ideas can always be put forward and shared to mutual advantage.
Harrogate and Nidderdale Art Club is a private company, limited by guarantee, and registered in England and Wales (registered number7429919). Its registered office is 19, Cookridge Street, Leeds LS2 3AG.
