Name: Chris Dicken

Location: Harrogate, North Yorkshire

Formal Training: I have no formal art training, but had a few lessons in pastels from a professional artist when I first started painting. Despite being very organized and rigorous in my life, my paintings are the opposite. I paint because I enjoy doing it.

Subject Of Choice: I tend to paint all sorts of subjects, but am always drawn back to focus on trees and woods.  I also like to do portraits and enjoy life drawing.

Medium Of Choice: Pastel & Charcoal/Pencil are my favourite mediums, but I also use acrylics.

What Inspires You: I love the outdoors and nature, especially woodland, hence the many tree paintings.  The free flowing structure of them appeals to the impressionistic way I paint.  I also love the magic of seeing a face appear on the canvas when painting portraits and the challenge of every one being different.

I have been on the Harrogate and Nidderdale Art Club (HANAC) committee since 2013, being Chairman for the last three (2017 onwards).

Awards: I have had a picture chosen as the subject for the HANAC Christmas Card in 2013 and won the Artist’s Choice prize at the HANAC 2017 Autumn Exhibition.

Exhibitions: I have only ever exhibited at the Harrogate and Nidderdale Art Club Spring & Autumn Exhibitions.

Do You Offer Workshops/ Tuition/ Commissions: I would be happy to do a commission if anyone ever asked !
